Finally got around to get some color management going.
Originally planned to go out and shop for a Spyder, went down to Sim City in Mongkok for a spin and saw the Spyder line on special at DC Fever, the Spyder 2 Express was going for HK$680 and the Spyder 3 Pro was going for HK$1,480. The plan was to go for the Spyder 3 Pro as I have two monitors hooked up for for my Lightroom settings plus the MacBook Pro for maneuvering around town and being able to calibrate multiple monitors is a must factor. In addition, being able to monitor constant ambient light is also a big plus, but as I was checking out other stores, I saw the Huey Pro (which performs the same functions as the Spyder 3 Pro) which have been out of stock for a while. Asked the guy at the shop and he offered HK$780.00, not bad at all and I grabbed it right away.
Got home, took me less than 30 minutes to calibrate the two monitors and the MacBook Pro, woot. As for the results, sure looks good.Woot for color management.

To Owners of the EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera
Thank you for using Canon products.
We have learned that some users of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera have identified two types of image quality phenomena that appear under certain shooting conditions.
We are currently investigating and analysing the causes, and examining measures to reduce or eliminate these phenomena by providing correction firmware. An announcement will be made on www.canon-europe.com as soon as measures have been determined.
Details of the phenomena and shooting conditions under which they are likely to occur are as follows.
1. “Black dot” phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black)
When shooting night scenes, the right side of point light sources (such as lights from building windows) may become black. The phenomenon may become visible if the images are enlarged to 100% or above on a monitor or if extremely large prints of the images are made.
2. Vertical banding noise
If the recording format is set to sRAW1, vertical banding noise may become visible depending on the camera settings, subject, and background.
▪ Vertical banding noise is not noticeable if the recording format is set to sRAW2.
▪ Vertical banding noise does not occur if the recording format is set to RAW or JPEG.
▪ Noise can be reduced if C.Fn II-3: Highlight tone priority is set to 0: Disable.
Canon apologizes for any inconvenience caused and thanks photographers for their patience.

Thanks to a great guy on the DCHome forum, I finally got hold of the Ricoh self retaining cap LC-1 converted for my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3. Much work was put into scrapping and sanding the cap down to fit the LX3 perfectly. According to this guy, he got the idea from one of the Japanese camera forum in which he saw other guys doing the same conversion but in a much more primitive way, that being just plainly sawing the cap down and that results in a not so tight fit connection between the lens and the cap.
Woot to the guy and no more lens cap problem for me. The cost, HK$160.00. For more details, check out his post here on the DCHome forum (Chinese).

The review of the Canon 5D Mark II is up on Camera Labs. But the fun read out of the whole review is the notes on the “black dot” issue of the 5D Mark II and the following is the extract (note my highlight in italics).
“The biggest issue facing the 5D Mark II is hopefully a temporary one: the infamous black dot issue reported by many early adopters. This affects images with very high contrast subjects, typically a saturated white area next to one that’s very dark. Typical examples include lights on city views at night, bright stars on astro-photos and seasonally enough, Christmas Tree lamps. The artefact appears as a very dark mark alongside the bright, saturated area, and you can see an example here from an image we took with the Mark II. The effect appears with or without Highlight Tone Priority, Auto Lighting Optimizer and Noise Reduction, and also exists on the RAW data. At the time of writing Canon has promised a response, and we can only hope it involves a firmware update and not a recall. If you take the kind of photos which could be affected and like to view them on-screen at 100%, then you’ll want to wait and see how the situation develops. If however the effect doesn’t bother you, or you rarely take images it would affect, then it may not be an issue. Certainly it did not appear in any of our standard indoor and outdoor test shots including those on our Gallery and Results pages.”
