Wow, look at this cannon, well, it’s the all new Sigma APO 200-500mm F2.8 EX DG for the Nikon.  Not the usual white but of a military green. According to DPReview, “it’s the

  • The world’s first ultra telephoto zoom lens that offers a fast aperture of F2.8 at the 500mm focal length.
  • The dedicated “Attachment” ensures autofocusing at the 1000mm focal length.
  • SLD and three ELD glass elements provide high image quality from the maximum large aperture
  • Supplied with ø72mm filter holder at the rear

This lens is the world’s first ultra telephoto zoom lens that offers a fast aperture of F2.8 at the 500mm focal length and F5.6 at the 1000mm. It covers widely used focal lengths from 200mm to 500mm and as a large aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. This lens can be used to create amazing image expression with various types of photography such as astrophotography, portraits, wildlife, sports. SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass and three ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction for all type of aberrations.

The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides high image quality from the extremely large aperture. The lens hood, designed exclusively for this lens, blocks out extraneous light. A 72mm filter can be inserted at the rear of the lens, and a circular polarizing filter can be used in situ thanks to the ingenious internal rotation mechanism. The dedicated Li-ion battery BP-21 is used to power the zooming and AF operation. This battery is built in the lens barrel. For the convenience of the photographer, focusing distances and focal lengths can be viewed on the lens`s built-in LCD panel.”

This baby will be launched mid-December at a price tag of US$34,000. This one sure gives me the chill.

Rumours on the D900 is popping up all around the internet.  The rumoured specs includes –

  • 1.5 crop factor;
  • 15.1 megapixels;
  • 24 fps video;
  • full manual control in video; and
  • weather sealing.

Given Nikon D300’s release date, the competition it’s facing, I would not be surprised at all if this is true.

The Nikon Speedlight SB-900 will be out this Friday and the retail price is HK$3,980.

Nikon Speedlight SB-900 Major Features

  • Three illumination patterns (standard, center-weighted and even) are available to match each shooting environment
  • Automatically detects Nikon FX and Nikon DX formats and selects suitable light distribution
  • Improved booster circuit for high-speed recycle time: Recycle time using four AA-size batteries is almost equal to the SB-800 with five AA-size batteries
  • New AF-Assist illumination covers a wide 20-105 mm focal range compatible with the new Multi-CAM3500 FX/DX AF sensor
  • Firmware update via Nikon D3 and D700 is possible (world’s first*)
  • Thermal Cut-out function limits the number of flashes to avoid deterioration of light emitting parts caused by continuous flash firing
  • Automatically detects color filters (fluorescent or incandescent), enabling camera to control color temperature according to filter information from SB-900
  • Improved switch panel for enhanced usability
  • Improved GUI using a large-size LCD dot panel
  • Bounce capability: tilts up to 90º, down to -7º, rotates horizontally 180º to right and left
  • Advanced Wireless Lighting and versatile functions for up to three remote groups of  SB-900s or other compatible Speedlight controlled through the master SB-900
  • Optional Water Guard WG-AS1 (for D3), WG-AS2 (for D300), and WG-AS3 (for D700) is useful for protecting the camera’s hot shoe contact when the SB-900 is mounted on these Nikon digital SLR cameras
